Barge Construction

Metal Trades' experience with barge construction began in 1994 with the building of 28 non-powered causeway barges for the U.S. Navy. These barges required the modular fabrication of over 1,000 pontoons, as they served the military's requirement to support military loading and unloading operations near undeveloped beach areas overseas.

Improved Navy Lighterage System (INLS)

Since 2003, has been subcontracted by Marinette Marine Corporation to build approximately 100 INLS barges for the U.S. Navy, each barge measuring 80' X 24'. This next generation system has performed well, allowing the U.S. Navy to operate in rough sea conditions up to Sea State Five. This program will continue well into 2009.
