Metal Trades History

J.E. Corbin, Jr. founded Metal Trades, Inc. in 1962 with a pickup truck, a welding machine, and years of metal fabricating experience.  In the early years, Metal Trades focused on steel and sheet metal fabrication.  Metal Trades, Inc. (MTI) later became certified as a Master Ship Repair Contractor for the US Army and Navy, providing overhaul and ship repair services on various types of coastal vessels.  MTI established a solid reputation for its multi-skilled work force and strong commitment to high quality.  In recent years, MTI has demonstrated proven expertise in the modular construction of larger, more complex industrial components which includes blasting/painting, machinery, piping, and the installation of specialized equipment.

"As a manufacturer of major industrial components, our dedication to quality and cost control is not an industry fad, but a 45-year commitment to customer satisfaction. This commitment has led MTI to establish one of the most comprehensive industrial manufacturing facilities available anywhere."

Today, MTI has one of the largest steel fabrication facilities in South Carolina which includes dedicated indoor sandblasting and painting facilities, featuring state of the art equipment.  A full service CNC enabled Machine Shop is also located on the company’s 47 acre complex.

Metal Trades currently employs approximately 180 employees at its location in Yonges Island, South Carolina.
